"Mr. Colmer told me that a man by the name of Hansel was headed for the Ohio Valley, he had a 16 year old bride and when they got to the area of Westernport his wife died in childbirth. He put his son in a basket and carried him over the mountain. When he got this far he had to stop for fear of losing his son also. He liked the area and decided to settle where he had stopped. In order to care for his son, he carried him in a basket wherever he went, to the fields, hunting or for supplies."
