The early
records of our RHYNE ancestors are found in a Church in Blankenloch,
near the city of Karlsruhe Germany. The REINAU name first appears
when ANNA MARIA REINAU daughter of BARTHEL and ANNA REINAU is
married on Nov 22,1707. These church records begin in the 1670`s
but do not mention the baptism of any of Barthel and Anna Reinau`s
children. History records that this part of Germany had been depleted
of population during thisperiod of time and that many families
had moved down the Rhein River from around the Zurich area. BARTHEL
REINAU was born about 1654 and died on June 6 th 1723 in Blankenloch.
His wife ANNA was born about 1659 and died January 9,1733 in Blankenloch.
He was referred to as "the one who plows with oxen"
and later "as the old cowherder".

(A) JACOB REINAU,born February 3, 1681&died May 3,1714 in
Blankenloch
(B) ANNA MARIA REINAU, was
married on nov.22nd,1707 at Blankenloch to JACOB HOOS a small
farmer, ,son of HANS MICHAEL HOOS a swine herder.
They had the following children:
(1) MARIA HOOS born Sept . 9th 1710. Married (1ST)MICHAEL HERMAN
and(2nd)HANS JORG HUBER a blacksmith.Their children:
(a) HANS MICHAEL HERMAN born Aug.12th1733.
(b) HANS JACOB HUBER born Sept.4th 1734.
(c) JOHANS FRIDERICH HUBER born Jun 26th
1736
(2) PHILIP JACOB HOOS born May 4th 1713. Married EVE
SHUH
(3) CATHERINE HOOS born May 25th1722
(4) DAVID HOOS born & died Aug 8th 1717
(5) MARGARETHA HOOS born Jan 25th 1728 died Oct 10th 1728
(6) ELIZABETHA HOOS born 1718 died Nov 9th 1728
(C) MARTIN REINAU was born
May 11,1690. On June 3, 1716 he married MAGDALENA FREYMULLER
, who was born April 10, 1689 in Andelfingen, Switzerland . She
was the daughter of CONRAD FREYMULLER.
They had the following children born in Blankenloch:
(1) CATHERINE REINAU, baptized Dec. 2, 1716
(2) HANS MARTIN REINAU born. April 17, 1718 (ancestor
of N.C. Rhyne family)
(3) ANNA MARIA REINAU, Born June 8, 1720
(4) LORENTZ REINAU, born 1722, died Jan. 28, 1729
(5) JACOB REINAU, born Aug 12,1726(ancestor of N.C. Rhyne family)
(6) JOHAN FRIDERICH REINAU ,baptized Feb 12,1732
(D) DAVID REINAU, small
farmer & swineherder, born about 1694 was married in Blankenoch,
Jan 8,1720 to ANNA BARBARA KUNLRBACH
daughter of HANS JERG KUNLEBACH of Langersteinbach.
. Their children were all born in Blankenloch:
(1) ELIZABETHA REINAU, bp. 9-16-1721
(2) JACOB REINAU , baptized Nov 5th 1724 died Aug 5th 1726
(3) MARTIN REINAU, baptized Mar. 14th,1726
(4) DAVID REINAU, baptized Nov 6th, 1724 died Sept 5th, 1726
(5) AUGUSTA REINAU born Oct 20th 1729
(6) HANS JORG REINAU, baptized Jan 13th 1734
After 1738 the REINAU name no longer appears in the Church records.
Records show that the ANNA MARIA HOOS and HANS JORG HUBER family arrived in Philadelphia on board the ship "FRIENDSHIP" on Sept 20,1738.
Three weeks later on Oct 12,1738, the MAGDALENA FREYMULLER and MARTIN REINAU family arrived on the "FOX" along with MARTIN REINAU`S nephew PHILLIP HOOS and his wife EVA SHUH.
Living in Blankenloch at
the same time was the "ANTONI BOSCH family"later to
be known
As BEST'
ANTONI BOSCH ,the baker
died Aug 17,1691, His wife ANNA MARIA died 1712.
On March 26,1715 ,their son SEBASTIAN BOSCH a carpenter married
MARGARETHA KIRCHBAUER daughter of HANS JACOB KIRCHBAUER of Langensteinbach
.
SEBASTIAN & MARGARETHA BOSCH along with their children MARIA
BARBARA BOSCH( baptized July 20,1721), MARIA CATHERINE BOSCH (baptized
April 27, 1727 )and JERG SEBASTIAN BOSCH (baptized March 8,1724)
arrived in Philadelphia on Oct 5, 1737 aboard the "TOWNSEND"
(manumission records recorded the family as"Best")
Later in N.C., Jerg Sebastian Best`s son married Jacob Rhyne`s
daughter EVE RHYNE and and his Daughter MARIA ELIZABETH BEST married
JacobRhyne`s son JACOB RHYNE 2nd.
We do not know what happened
to the David Reinau Family.
