Julia Deana Shoults was born in 1915 in Toledo, Ohio, the third of four d aughters. Her stories of her childhood in Trilby are a source of enjoyme nt to all the family. They lived in the country where they had a garde n and chickens. She was always closest to her sister Gertrude and they s till keep close contact via telephone. All four of the girls were beauti ful young women. She attended Trilby school and graduated from Whitmer H igh School in June 1933. As a young woman she was 5'5" tall and slende r and now at 83 years old she is considerable shorter by still slim. Sh e has hazel eyes and did have dark brown hair. She started bowling in th e 40's and continues to bowl once a week. When she was younger she carri ed a 165 average but in 1998 it's about 140. She still has 200 games o n occasion.

She started painting on china in 1954 and continues to paint now. She ta ught others to paint for many years in Michigan and Florida and does beau tiful things. Her great sorrow is none of us inherited her talent. Sh e and her sister Jayne were both artists.

She is a great mom and grandmother. My children and my sisters childre n still talk about running away to grandma's house and they are in thei r thirties. She allowed them to play with anything in her house includin g tools, which made my father crazy. Everyone should have a grandmothe r like her.

She had a rough time when my father was drinking the first ten years the y were married, but stood by him and never stopped believing in him. Whe n he joined AA in 1946 she was his tower of strength and he still says h e couldn't have stayed sober without her, but that's the kind of person s he is.
